The Department at the inception of the 2011/2012 Academic session was named Department of Agronomy. SENATE at its inauguration on 25th July 2012 approved the change of name of the Department to Crop Science and Horticulture.
The Department offers undergraduate programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Agriculture in Crop Science and Horticulture. The Department aims at training skilled manpower for sustainable food production and natural resource management.
The department currently has ten students as pioneers. It manages the research and demonstration farm of the Faculty with six hectares of oil palm, one hectare of plantain and maize respectively.
The department has its objectives as follow:
- Assist in the attainment of self-sufficiency in food production.
- Develop technologies to enhance the development of horticulture in Nigeria.
- Train and build students that have passion for agriculture.
- Inspire in students diligence and innovation.
We have the vision to be one of the departments to be reckoned with in terms research, development and students capacity building in Federal University Oye Ekiti.
